It was raining lightly as we woke up and continued in that style all day. White Beach campground has a small swimming lake which was steaming gently in the drizzle so I started the day with a swim. Pleasantly tepid. Is there a hot spring under the lake. Although raining, the weather was not cold though. We needed to reach the sea because no true transam can occur without a wheel dip in salty water on one side of a continent prior to any hoped for dip at the other side. So we went the few miles down to Wharton's Point where the dip was ceremonially completed. Two women were looking at the side of the jetty and they showed us a horseshoe crab with a strange semi translucent shell - dead but remarkable. Apparently they can grow to a huge size and have changed little since the Devonian (400 - 500 million years ago. We set off through Brunswick again, bought oil at the bike shop and food from the local supermarket, Hannaford's. Then off via a rather complex route to the west. The route went along the hard shoulder of a busy road through to Lisbon then Lewiston and then we got a bit lost around Pownal, we had to go cross country to get back on route at Shaker. Then up to Poland where Poland Spring campsite provided a site for our tent for the shocking sum of $73! Well, we were running out of daylight so that was that. Hmm, daylight robbery...?
