Today we travelled from NYC to Brunswick bt train, to start our transam from Brunswick. We got up at 5am. It was surprisingly easy because our body clock still thinks of 5am as 10am, UK time. Useful. Headed off to Montrose tube station after a good breakfast of porridge. The tube got us to 14th St, where we cycled down to Moynahan train station. This train got us to Boston. In Boston the Celtics (basketball I think) were having a match which meant crowds of young men wearing Irish style green T shirts with celtics written on. Fetching but rather crowded. People were still, after all these years, throwing tea in the harbour...Quaint. I didn't pay to throw tea anywhere. Then a visit to North Church - both revolutionary history and social history. The church is famed for the use of the Bell tower to signal British military movements. The social history considered how people of deep faith could own slaves. The church had many progressive views - women and black people got a place in the church. We also viewed HMS Constitution - noted by Patrick O'Brian fans for capturing HMSJava with Aubrey and Maturin on board - see O'Brian's The Fortune of War. One of the best books of the Aubrey Maturin series, tho' they are all superb. Then to the train to Brunswick- battling through crowds of Celtic fans to get to our train. We got to Brunswick at 7.15pm and reached Thomas Point Campground at about 8pm, dusk. Sadly, I'm spite of a 'reservation' via the Web, the site was holding a festival and rejected us! After looking at expensive motel options we eventually hit upon White Beach campground 5 miles from the station - reached bt about 10pm in the dark though the roads were quiet and courteous. This campground is recommended - great warm swims in their lake, and a decent price. Thomas Point should be avoided... The photo is the USS Constitution at Boston.
