The bikes have been partially dismantled, in order to fit in a cardboard bike box, costing a slightly ridiculous £35. Well I suppose it isn't cheap to rent a shop at Heathrow. We just need to get them weighed because they have to be 23kgs or less, and cardboard itself isn't so light. If overweight, a complicated dance of taking items out will happen - against the clock. And you must ensure that any bike tools are in the box too. Screwdrivers, etc, are not suitable hand luggage on a plane. I got this wrong, on a flight many years ago, to New Zealand and lost a super multi-tool. It takes a lot of admin to get a transam underway and we are both looking forward to getting the cycling started. Heathrow isn't a bike friendly place, even the access tunnel for bikes is closed just at the moment. But terminal 5 is a bit better - reachable without use of any bike tunnel.
