The last two days have been 50 mile days, but today we pushed the boat out a bit and did something like 66 miles on the route and about 71 in total. We started well, hurtling along and up to the col where the Appalachian Trail crosses our route. Then down to the Connecticut River, a slight detour to avoid a closed bridge and then, well, we were now in Vermont, our fourth state, and so we got a bit lost around Thetford Center and did a few miles in the wrong direction. We did eventually read our map guide carefully and found the Tucker Hills Road which took us onto our last big climb of the day, up over the 1500' line. Then down to a town called Sharon. Surprisingly upmarket place with a super shop and deli, though the breakfast cereals cost £5 for Grandpa's Honey Loops....! The beer was well priced and I bought a modestly alcoholic pale ale - Founders Session Pale. Fruity - a nice contrast to the Pig's Ear Brown Ale dragged over the hillsin a pannier. We hauled up at Henderson's Hideaway, cheap but no showers, a dip in the river suffices, just north of Sharon. Somnolence beckons, miles like that make you sleepy. We arrived at 7.30pm...
